1.Company Information and Business Context

 

1.1 Introduction

  • Medelab Vietnam was established on 29th August 2009 in Hanoi city. At that time, it was located in a 1,000m2 building with 9 floors and had 10 specializations. In May 2013, it moved to an eight-floor building with the total square of 10,800m2. Medelab Vietnam has two segmentation businesses; the first is providing primary care (including check-ups and visual diagnosis) called Medelab clinic and the second is doing medical tests including specialized ones in the Laboratory. Medelab Vietnam is a 100% foreign investment company which is owned by LabNET Global and Kusto Group. The goal of Medelab is to gave the top priority to patients' needs and become the number one Clinic & Lab in Vietnam in terms of efficiency, quality and financial performance.

  • At present, Medelab Clinic has 12 specializations, 60 examination rooms, a visual-diagnosis center and a laboratory which can satisfy all needs of customers. After five years, Medelab clinic has become the biggest clinic in the North of Vietnam. Medelab clinic provides primary care, insurance check-ups and doctor/homecare service for both individual customers and corporate customers. Medelab clinic not only has strengths in periodical examinations for corporate customers, but also in insurance check-ups and doctor-care. Up to now, The average number of patient per day is around 500, and this Clinic is setting the goal getting 1000 patients per day at the end of this year. For its laboratory, now INVIVO is one of the most modern laboratory in Hanoi. In 2014, the total sales of Medelab Clinic is 3,800,000 USD; and Sales of the INVIVO Lab is 550,000 USD.

  • Objectives (Short term 2015): Increase revenue by 15% in 2015.

  • Serious illness: Good doctors, 

  • Cheap price

  • Medical insurance cardholders want to be treated with cheapest price

  • Good perception about public hospitals’ doctors

  • Receive financial support from government to invest in high quality medical equipment

  • Overcapacity: leads to bad quality, each doctor has to examine from 80-100 patients per day (the best is 40 patients per day)

  • Doctor consultation is not proper. Patients could not get appropriate consultations about pharmacy and nutrition info etc., and it takes time for for medical checkups

  • Deteriorated medical quality and ethicality among several doctors because of overcapacity. Patients give doctors more money therefore sometime cost is not cheap

  • Easy to be contagious environment

  • Doctors often request more examinations and drugs than necessary to get more money.

  • However, because of some medical crisis happened in 2014, it seems that now people become more carefully when chose a private hospital/clinic to have healthcare examination.
